Electronica Staff Picks
Ok, so maybe it’s not technically an electronica release,
but Scientist has most definitely influenced and inspired a large number of today’s producers. For Halloween, we’ve selected his Scientist Rids the World of the Curse of the
Evil Vampires. This spooky-themed dub selection was originally
released in 1981, but was re-popularized by its use in the game Grand Theft
Auto III.
Has the world known a more
celebrated DJ than Tiesto? We think not. His new album Kaleidoscope marks his first studio
album since 2007’s Elements of Life. It made its debut on Billboard’s Top 200 and opened at #3 on the Top Dance Albums chart.
Tiesto is also promoting a tour to coincide with Kaleidoscope and will be
making his way around the U.S. until the end of the year.
Another chart infiltrator is Jus Jack’s single “Smoke.” Jack
teamed with Phil Garant and Matina Parisi on this latest joint, and it landed the
#1 spot on the German dance charts for five straight weeks and made Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart here in the U.S. With “Smoke” maintaining its
momentum, expect to hear it a lot in club mixsets.
Engaged couple and DJ team Odeed (Jake) and Wish (Kerri) form
the duo HD4000. Their latest release, Jekal, is an instant dubstep classic. As
the remixes unfold (including the shuffle treatment from the Widdler) one
common theme rings through each edition—the massive bassline. Pretty heavy
material. Give it a taste.
